Recording Audio

Opening the Audio Recorder

Click the microphone icon in the compose toolbar, or press A while the compose box is not focused. If the browser needs microphone access, grant it when prompted.

Recording

Recording starts immediately after permission is granted. You will see:

  • A live canvas waveform that responds to your microphone input in real time.
  • A timer showing how long you have been recording.
  • A microphone selector if you have multiple input devices connected — click it to switch sources mid-recording.
  • A Pause button — click to pause and click again to resume.
  • A Stop button — click when you are finished.

Size limit: The maximum recording size is 15 MB. If you exceed the limit, recording stops automatically and the clip up to that point is available for preview.

Previewing Before You Attach

After clicking Stop, the recorder switches to a preview screen. Click Play to listen back to the recording before attaching it. You can play it as many times as you like.

If the recording is not right, click Re-record to discard the clip and start again from scratch.

Attaching the Recording

Click Use to attach the recording to the compose box. An attachment chip appears showing the audio filename. It uploads in the background — send the reply when the chip shows a checkmark.

Cancelling

Click Cancel at any point — during recording, during pause, or on the preview screen — to discard the clip entirely. The recorder closes and nothing is added to the compose box.

Microphone Permission Denied

If you clicked Deny when the browser asked for microphone access, the recorder will show an error. To fix this:

  1. Click the lock icon in the browser address bar.
  2. Find Microphone and set it to Allow.
  3. Refresh the Freshdesk page and try again.
