Sending Files, Audio & Video
Attaching Files
You can add file attachments to any message using three methods:
- File picker — click the paperclip icon in the composer toolbar and select a file from your local file picker.
- Drag and drop — drag a file from your file system and drop it anywhere on the chat panel (works in both the channel view and the thread panel).
- Copy and paste — copy a file or image to your clipboard and paste it directly into the composer.
All three methods add the file as an attachment chip in the composer. Send the message to post the file to the Slack channel or thread.
Limits
- Maximum 10 files per message. Attempting to add an 11th file will show an error.
- Files are uploaded directly to Slack.
Removing an Attachment
Click the × on an attachment chip to remove it before sending.
Recording Audio
- Click the microphone icon in the composer toolbar.
- Grant microphone permission if the browser prompts you.
- Recording starts immediately. A live waveform visualiser shows your audio input.
- Click Stop when you are done.
- A preview screen appears — click Play to listen back before sending.
- Click Use to attach the recording to the composer, then send the message.
- Click Re-record to discard the clip and start again, or Cancel to close the recorder without attaching anything.
The recorded audio clip is posted to the Slack channel or thread and can be played back by all participants in Slack.

- Click Use to attach the video to the composer, then send the message.
- Click Re-record to discard and start again, or Cancel to close without attaching.
The recorded video is uploaded to Slack and visible to all participants in the channel or thread.
